Global Villages 2017
During the 2017 GIN conference, students were distributed into global villages. The objective was to not only build good relationships between members from a variety of backgrounds, but to also promote team-work, leadership, and critical thinking when dealing with current global issues with economic, social and political aspects. The village of Syria, for example, addressed the current refugee crisis. Village leaders first gave insight into the topic, explaining its history and global significance, and then students took matters into their own hands, assuming roles, including World Bank President and country President, in order to create solutions to the problem that were best for parties involved. Through various activities and integrated discussions, students were able to express their individual opinions on the issue and develop an action plan to confront the problem. The topics in each village were complex and controversial, but students managed to work together as world citizens and come to a conclusion, while learning new skills and information about our ever-changing world.
